DIRECT AND INDIRECT (CONCEPT)

 The literal meaning of narration is-to say/to state. And the synonyms of narration is assertion/statement and declaration.

Narration are two types

1.DIRECT SPEECH
2.INDIRECT SPEECH

1.DIRECT SPEECH- when a person narrate the words of speaker in the same as speaker said without any change. we should always keep speaker statement in double inverted commas(" ").

Example- Mona said,  "I am busy".

2.INDIRECT SPPECH- when a person narrate the words of speaker not as speaker said but in their own words. we should replace double inverted commas while changing from direct to indirect.

 Example- Mona said that she was busy. 

direct speech have two parts

  Example-          he said,                "I am hungry"
                    Reporting verb            reported speech

1.REPORTING SPEECH- a group of words which is outside the  double inverted commas .And the verb used in reporting speech is called reporting verb.

Example -      Vikas         said to                  sohan,       "I   need   you ".
                    reporter   reporting verb         object          reported speech

2.REPORTED SPEECH - a group of words which is inside the double inverted commas.

 Example-       vikas  said to sohan ,        " I   need    you"
                                                                  reported speech



it is necessory to know first which kind of sentence is present in inverted commas because we could not change sentences from direct to indirect without knowing it. so we will discuss types of sentences in the next post.
